Seriously guys… Are there people who will join the Star Trek fandom now that Benedict will be in the next movie? Just now?! Where have you been in all your life?

I’ve always needed a good excuse. I’ve watched a little out of curosity, but not much. I come from a strict Star Wars family, and my dad is opposed. See if he’ll stop me supporting Benedict now.
This is an odd debate and it really matters more where you draw the lines. For instance, “The Empire Strikes Back” is the best of the six Star Wars movies, and I’ve yet to find a TNG episode better. However, there are several I like more than “A New Hope,” and many I like more than the other four movies. If you base it solely on TNG v. Original Star Wars Trilogy, then it’s a very close match. However, if you take the New Trilogy into account, TNG wins, hands-down. But then things get very weird when you include TOS, DS9, and Voyager, because the opinions vary wildly for those three. Taking the four Star Trek series and pitting them against the six Star Wars movies makes it very hard to determine which is better, even as an opinion.
And then you have the Extended Universe and the Star Trek movies and it all gets very messy. But if you want to get into Star Trek, start with TNG. It’s got much of the same feeling of TOS while being much less dated.
